Kefalonia, Greece

We docked today at Agostino, island of Kefalonia, Greece.  The weather was warmer with crystal blue skies. At one point we could see the mainland of Greece.

Our excursion today was a small group tour that took us all over the island. There are only 35,000 residents. A massive earthquake in 1953 and again in 2011 resulted in about 100,000 people leaving.

The panoramas are breathtaking, the towns quaint with tourist shops and the water ever changing colors of blue. We did visit the underground Lake Melisani and the associated Drogarati cave. Interesting, pretty, glad to have seen them.  We covered a lot of the island, saw the sights .

A harbor view of the city.

Very blue, very picturesque.

Notice the padlocks on the railing.  Lovers believe if they leave a lock there, their love for one another will be secure.

Quaint, one street towns that are not too touristy.

There is a famous underground lake on the island, Lake Messina.  It has crystal clear water and an abundance of stalactites and stalagmites.

We took a short boat ride around this grotto.

An abundance of stalactites.

More, along with some stalagmites.

The old lighthouse, now modernized with an electric beacon.

More really blue water.
